If you get a chance to travel this Summer, keep your eye out for historical baskets.
We stopped by Monticello in Charlottesville, VA in April 2022 and found these white oak baskets in the weaving room.
The basket on the left looks to be plaited construction with an interesting rim treatment.
The basket on the right is a good example of a rib construction basket. Note: There is no "top rib" on this basket, but the maker did put an extra wrap on the rim while weaving the basket.
Finding historical baskets is lots of fun (for me anyway) and you can use the design elements that you find on historical baskets in your own baskets.
